LEOPARD APPALOOSA

FEW SPOT APPALOOSA
A Few Spot Appaloosa is NOT an Appaloosa with a few spots

Tovero, Overo, Sabino, Pinto

Not EVERY horse with a blaze/snip/sock/blue eye or patch of white is a Tovero or Overo.
Not
EVERY foal from an OVERO mating is an Overo.
To be either
OVERO or TOVERO the horse MUST have a parent that carries the Frame Overo gene.
Here are some examples of Tovero, Overo, Sabino and Pinto.

Blue eyes/sock/blaze

Blaze and sock

The above horses are from Overo matings and are NOT OVERO.

Bald face, brown eyes, splashes.

Bald face, belly splash.

Bald face, sock.

Snip, star, blue eye

The above horses are from Overo matings and are OVERO.

All have wild markings, some have blue eyes.

The above horses are from Pinto matings, and are NOT OVERO/TOVERO.

Sabino
Light colour on head.
Sabino
All white
Sabino/ OVERO
Black lip spots, all white.
Sabino/OVERO/Buckskin
All white.

The above four horses all show the extreme SABINO gene.
2 are also OVERO from OVERO matings.
2 are Extreme Sabino only from NON OVERO matings.
NONE are double dilutes and only one has a dilute parent.

Wild markings, but NOT A TOVERO.
Possible Homozygous Pinto.
Wild markings, carries the Pinto and Overo gene.
TOVERO.

The above 2 stallions were both sold to me as TOVERO, one is and one isn't.
Buyer beware when buying TOVERO/OVERO ask for PROOF, it is a simple procedure to test for the Frame Overo Gene.

Results are based on Genetic Testing.
